“According to an Eskimo legend, the Northern Lights were once imprisoned in the rocks along the coast of Labrador. It is told that a wandering Eskimo warrior found them and was able to free most of the lights with a mighty blow of his spear. Some of the lights were still trapped within the stone, and thus we have today the beautiful mineral known as labradorite.”
This is the gemstone that is attached to my necklace that my father gave me. I find it really interesting that my father chose this for me. Seeing as my name on here is “Nanuk”, which means “polar bear” in the Inuit language. A part of the Inuit tribe (also known as Eskimo) is located in Labrador. Hmm, interesting! I have a feeling I will be wearing this necklace for a very, very long time.
